Titanic and the New Captain

What are the underlying messages of the film beyond the fictional love story woven between Jack the tramp and Rose, the bourgeois girl?

The Titanic sank in 1912 during its voyage from Britain to America. It struck an iceberg, causing it to sink within two hours.

American propaganda turned the story into an American film with an astronomical budget of $200 million!

– Over 1,500 people lost their lives. This was considered collateral damage, and the focus was on the drowning of the hero, Jack, and the survival of Rose.

– 60 % of the upper class survived; these were first-class passengers.

– 50% of second-class passengers survived because they followed the instructions.

– 23%  of the passengers from the lower class survived, all of whom were in third class. The high survival rate among these passengers was attributed to their defiance of instructions and their determined efforts to escape.

– The band continued playing throughout the disaster until the very end. They then drowned, a scene considered one of the most powerful in the film.

The message is:

– The deaths of thousands of poor people are unintended collateral damage.

– The survival of Rose, the bourgeois girl and beloved of the commoner Jack, is the important event and what should make us happy.

– Are we living these days on the deck of a new Titanic about to sink?!

Trump is the captain.

– The media and press are the band that sprinkles sugar on death.

– First-class passengers are well-known.

– Second-class passengers are well-known.

– Third-class passengers are well-known.

– Book your ticket in whatever class you wish to travel in.
